Lauren Trangmar is an artist, illustrator and graphic designer with roots in Hawaii and New Zealand. She currently lives and works on the island of Oahu. Lauren specializes in highly detailed illustrations that reference the conventions of historical, scientific illustration with a whimsical twist. Themes that are explored in her most recent work include the relationship between storytelling, culture, myths and history, art and science, and the conventions of natural history. Lauren works in a range of media including ink, pencil, watercolor, digital illustration, painting and printmaking.
Lauren was born and raised in Christchurch, New Zealand. She began her undergraduate studies in Fine Arts at the University of Canterbury before transferring to the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa where she attained her BFA in Graphic Design. Her work has been included in numerous private collections and exhibitions in Honolulu, Kauai, North Carolina, Australia and New Zealand; the most notable being Honolulu Museum of Art’s, Artists of Hawai‘i 2015 exhibition where she produced a body of work that was purchased for the museum’s permanent collection. She has also completed artist residencies in Honolulu, Kauai and North Carolina.
